GERALDO'S FABLES

3/24/2015

A senior producer for Geraldo Rivera Reports contacted our family in January; she indicated they were, “taking a fresh look at the story” and that our website was “very thought provoking.” They gave us the opportunity to go on camera; we said, “Probably not.”

Well unfortunately, after watching the program this past weekend, this fresh look, for the most part, was surprisingly old.  So old that we don’t have to write anything new to refute it; our responses were compiled years ago out of court transcripts.  Many of the people Geraldo interviewed added new distortions to these old myths – very frustrating.

Geraldo used words like, ‘cushy’, ‘luxury’, ‘privileged’ and ‘surprisingly good’ to describe Scott’s life on death row.  We do not even know how to respond to such insanity and we won’t.  Those descriptions are as accurate as the rest of his report.

Mark Geragos shared the potential legal argument that Conner was not a viable fetus.  Geraldo then asserted that this was being argued in court on Scott’s behalf; that Scott is so cruel and heartless that he doesn’t even acknowledge the life of his own child.  This point is not being argued on Scott’s behalf by his appellate attorneys.

We’ve listed most remaining falsehoods below with the appropriate link if you’d like to read more on the topic…

Scott never had alibi confusion nor did he hide the fact that he went fishing.  When Laci’s step-dad called 911 to report her missing, he said Scott had been golfing that day.  This was an assumption.  Scott had not told him he had been golfing.  Scott repeatedly told family and police that he was fishing, what he was fishing for and that he did not use bait.  He showed them a marina receipt, his fishing license and his boat.  In fact, the police did not believe Scott had gone fishing and only later, when his fishing alibi turned out to be true did they accuse him of saying he had been golfing.  For more information see our article ALLEGED LIES.

Detective Brocchini insinuated in the show that Scott washed his clothes, ate pizza, drank milk and took a shower when he first found out his wife was missing.  All these things happened prior to Scott realizing Laci was missing.  Per Scott’s cell phone records, his frantic messages to Greg and Kristen Reed occurred after Scott discovered Laci was missing.  For more information see our article SCOTT’S TIMELINE.

Read TRIPS AND VEHICLES for more information on why Scott went back to the Berkeley Marina while Laci was missing.

Scott’s boat was not a secret and there were not ‘5 perfectly round concrete rings’ on Scott’s trailer.  To see exhibit photos and to read more about the alleged making of 5 anchors, read 10 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SCOTT’S BOAT.

Scott immediately and voluntarily consented to police searches of his home, his vehicles and his warehouse the night Laci went missing.  Scott did not refuse them entry to his home.  For more information on how cooperative and truthful Scott was with the police, see TRIAL QUOTES.

Scott’s alibi was publicized quickly and frequently.  For more information on Laci and Conner’s bodies being found on the shore of the San Francisco Bay, read OPPORTUNITY.

Scott and Laci bought life insurance on each other 18 months before she went missing, not while Laci was pregnant.  For more information on the stability of their finances read THE TRUTH ABOUT FINANCES.

Scott told no lies to the police except about Amber.  Scott lied to Amber and about Amber a lot!  In fact, the pile of evidence in this case all pertains to adultery, not murder.  Despite what was said in the Geraldo special, Scott and Amber were not talking every day prior to Laci’s disappearance and Juror John Guinasso is mistaken in his statement that Scott “was having an affair on the side while (Laci’s) body was in the bay”.  Scott did not pursue Amber or see her after Laci went missing.  For more on this topic read SEX, LIES AND AUDIOTAPES.

Scott did not flee, attempt to flee or evade police.  The DOJ agent in Geraldo’s special directly contradicted courtroom testimony regarding Scott’s arrest.  There was no ‘OJ moment’.  This was not a high-speed pursuit.  Scott was being followed, and police testimony and evidence showed that Scott believed he was being followed by private investigators hired by the media.  The moment the officers identified themselves as law enforcement he immediately pulled over.  For more details on this, as well as Scott’s appearance and items in his possession at the time of his arrest, read SCOTT DID NOT FLEE.

Testimony showed Scott was excited to become a father and was actively preparing for Conner’s arrival.  Juror Julie Zanartu suggested Laci’s pregnancy was a motive for murder.    Read CONNER’S NURSERY for more information.

If you clicked on all the above links, you pretty much will have read a book.  A book of facts.  Facts that Geraldo’s producer acknowledged reading.  There is no excuse for perpetuating this much misinformation.  There is no excuse for detectives to go on camera and grab at vague recollections of the facts and further distort the truth.  It is shameful.

We’ve presented a lot of information and we appreciate that you’ve taken the time to read any or all of it.  We’re not going anywhere, so feel free to come back and read some more if you have the time…

Seriously, is there a journalist out there who cares about the truth? Scott lives a prison life for something he didn't do! How about finding a journalist that really cares about reporting the facts?!!! I'm so sick of the Geraldos of this world! Not worth anyone's time or energy to watch anymore! Disgusting!!!

I am old enough to remember that whole "wall" farce with Geraldo. please, he was inconsistent and a sensationalist then and evidently has not outgrown that. Journalism is an honorable profession. He gives it a black eye.

Geraldos interviews should be considered an embarrassment to his career. That show made me think even less of not only him as a person but every single person in the media. Scott is in prison because of the medias lies. Its shameful our government allows this. This is the main reason we should not have freedom of speech. it allows people to lie!

I have always supported Scott and continue to do so to this day. I think of him often and I wonder how just a travesty of justice can happen? I am so very sad for Scott and all of his family. Someday, the truth will prevail. As for Geraldo .... it's always about money and power. That's all it's every been about as far as Scott's case goes.

I have often thought the prosecution did not prove its case. Unfathomable that there could be a murder with absolutely NO physical evidence beyond one hair in a rusty pair of needle nose pliers in the storage area.

I watched the trial and the prosecution was off to a bad start especially with no evidence and no ability to give anything credible as to how this happened? Enter Amber Frey and Scott's lies to her and infidelity to Laci 8 mos pregnant. That blew the case wide open because it provided a motive (which the prosecution doesn't need to prove, but they do need evidence!)

The media saturation was already there. Once Amber entered the case, there was such hysteria which guaranteed Scott would not get a fair trial. I don't know how Scott could have pulled this off-- physically. So the prosecution's theory of the case must fail.

I hope he gets this conviction overturned. Nobody should be tried by media. It ruins some people's lives and makes careers for others. It is corrupt, and we really need to find a better way.

I am not one of those crazy women who falls for cons as a way of finding a man. lol I have not and would not contact this man. I have no reason to. I believe he did not get a fair trial. I believe he was tried and convicted in the media before he ever entered a courtroom. The people on that jury were acting on personal and emotional feelings. He was a man that cheated on his pregnant wife. My Lord they hated him because of that. And that might make him a total piece of dog dung, but not a murderer. Amber? Oh my,, what a piece of work she is. She would have had zero credibility if she had not had such a great attorney. But the only reason she got her was because she was a single parent herself and identified with her. The stealth juror? wow she sure impressed me, as the woman who might have flirted with someone like Scott Peterson in a bar and got turned down flat. lol

Scott's case is a travesty of justice. There is no way in the world that we as a people should allow the death penalty to be put on the table in a circumstantial edvidence case. Unless there is solid physical evidence it should not even be an option. I personally believe that Scott is innocent. But, even if I didn't believe that, there is no proof. And when there is no proof it means there is a chance the charges could be false and the accusation wrong. We as a society need to eliminate this punishment as an option unless we are absolutely sure the crime has been committed by the defendent. And that is certainly not the case here. I truly hope that Scott receives his appeal because the case is full of holes. And I hope he goes free after that.

I am in total agreement, I do not believe that with all the evidence presented that he is guilty of any wrong doing, wish I could have served on the jury for it would have been a hung jury. Carleton Adams, Bremerton,WA

When did media get to pick who gets blamed in murder cases? And why isnt all of the evidence not shown gone over with a fine tooth comb or talked about especially in a murder case? Why Are some people thrown away framed n blamed? And not even look for the real killers?

I've always believed that Scott was not proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. That jury was a joke answering to the mob mentality.

The truth is I do not know if Scott killed Laci and Conner, unfortunately we probably won't know unless the killer or killers make some sort of deathbed confession because the police and prosecutors believe they have their man.

It's so sad that the public allows themselves to be fooled by the media, it's even worse that the public stands by letting the media convict people making it impossible for them to get a fair trial. I do know in Scotts case if you remove the media there would not have even been an arrest much less a conviction, the facts just don'tsupport it. Did Scott make mistakes absolutely, that doesn't make him a murderer. The fact is there were NO FACTS that tied him to the murders, there was inuindo, unsupported conclusions, and strecting of the truth. There is not a doubt in my mind that prosecutors and the jury were influenced by the media, in cases accross the country where prosecutors had the same lack of evidence there are not even arrests much less a conviction. The truth is without the media Scott would not even have been arrested but once prosecutors saw the media convicting Scott they knew they could convict him with public perception and deception. So the real question is from an evidentiary standpoint was there even probable cause for an arrest. Because to be arrested without the presence of evidence we should all be worried about being arrested for any crime anytime. Good Luck Scott and the entire Peterson family for what its worth I'm on your side.

Scott was tried and convicted by the media. In 2015, I drank the koolaid. After watching the A & E special I really don't believe he is guilty. He is guilty of being a cad, a liar and of infidelity but not murder and has spent 15 years in prison. Good luck and I hope you get a new trial. I'm just afraid the media would do the same thing in a new trial.

Have you reached out to the producers of Serial? Number one podcast for a young man who was likely innocent of his conviction. Just curious. I've got to say, I've followed this case since day one and after I really listened to that podcast mentioned above, I really think anything is possible and the police and the media distort our perception to meet their needs I hope you all find peace, with whatever the outcome.

Scott Peterson is guilty as hell. Your attempts to justify his actions and to try to explain away the mountain of circumstantial evidence that prove he did it are pathetic at best and criminal at worst. 90% of all people are murdered by their partner or ex-partner and the number one cause of death of pregnant women are the father of the future child who cannot or will not accept the burden of having another person to provide for and to protect in the future. Scott Peterson is a psychopath who ticks almost every box of traits which define a psychopath. Stop torturing the family of Laci Peterson with your attempts to free her murderer.

You are delusional if you think Scott Peterson is innocent. I'm sure no parent or sibling would want to admit their son/brother is a cold blooded killer, but that's what he is. He is where he belongs. He does not deserve a second chance. He took the life of a beautiful young woman and an innocent child. Neither of them have a second chance. You're wasting your time on a monster who is not worth it. He can continue to rot in prison where he belongs. That is the truth.

Like most people in the nation, I believed Scott Peterson to be guilty; however, now in light of the lack of evidence, I have doubts about his ability to commit murder. I am conflicted.

What I am confident of is this: no one wants to see someones’ child given the death penalty. I would be thrilled to be wrong about Scott Peterson, as much as I don't like him. Media sensationalized some things. Detectives did not follow all leads. I am not convinced of his guilt.

The more I study this case I am not sure if Scott did actually do it; however, I believe there is room for reasonable doubt (given the severe lack of forensic evidence). Based on my research of this case (as a logic professor) my own opinion is that there is a roughly 70% chance that he is guilty and 30% that he is innocent. Now to me 30% is reasonable enough doubt to give pause to a conviction (to say nothing of issuing a death penalty). Either way my sympathies go out to both families affected by this tragedy....

When Jon Benet Ramsey was murdered I was sure it was her mother or father based on hat was said in the media. Later I realized I was wrong and was ashamed of my assumption. After seeing some of the new series I am questioning my previous thoughts about Mr Peterson's guilt. I read Sharon Rocha and Scott sisters book several years ago. Thought guilty for sure.

I now am uncertain based on witnesses who saw Laci in the morning, no one saw a body being loaded into truck or boat and a few other items.

In my opinion more has to be focused on regarding who could have killed Laci... This needs to be done by Scotts family.

It's a shame that Scott could be found guilty of murder just because he had an affair. There's no evidence of him committing the murder when she was alive and seen alive after he left. The media don't care about ruining people's lives they only care about making a story even if it's all untrue!! Shame on our Justice system!! We need to get Justice for Lacey, Connor and Scott!! Hope they allow a new trial!! There is someone out there that knows the truth and I hope they come forward so Scott can be set free!! And any jury that believed in the dog smelling Lacey scent is a moron since that dog failed his certification!!

Just goes to show how much influence the media can have on people. The media should act responsibly for this reason. They took the notion that Scott is guilty and made the nation believe it. I don't believe Scott can get another trial that is fair unless it's held in an African jungle. I think he should be released with time served, the sooner the better, and all parties involved his his prosecution and reporting on this case, better hope he doesn't sue the pants off of you. This from one who drank the koolaid.

Amber Fry baited and grilled Scott as if she were his mother. Listening to the tapes it's ridiculous the police even let her do this. Four dates does not a murder make. Amber Fry should be embarrassed and ashamed of herself for believing someone would be head over heels for her after 4 dates and she wrongly interjected herself in this case. I think she's the narcissist and she had to make this case about herself.
The Modesto police department zeroed in on and vilified Scott and didn't even bother to investigate other leads.

I am very sad that our judicial system has continued to fail so miserably. We have a good system in place, but do not use it properly. we pick and choose who gets true justice and who does not. Usually it is based on financial ability and smooth lawyering. I do believe it is great and would certainly want someone with that silver tongue and some know how If I were ever to get in trouble, don't get me wrong. But Judges who allow this injustice are the ones that could do something to put an end to the games being played. Scott Peterson did not get a fair trial. Period. Personally I believe him to be somewhat of a mama's boy. Did not seem to me like that man ever did his own dirty work in his life. I do not believe he did the deed. Not going to speculate on what his involvement was if any, I think there has been too much of that already. The bottom line is, we must have the evidence necessary to sustain an arrest and indictment. Where the heck was it? This was the biggest miscarriage of justice I had ever seen short of the Casy Anthony case where there was plenty of evidence and that evil woman walked with nothing. Nothing. Not ever child abuse or abandonment! Not even reporting your baby missing at the 30 day mark spoke volumes to me. We hear all the time that "an innocent person would not have a lawyer right away" spoke about folks. Well, if you know they want to close a case quickly and not do their job, or they had political pressures and you had no connections to keep you from being a target, my advice would be to anybody YES get an attorney.

I have been watching a documentary, over here in the U.K., presented by the Crime and Investigation channel. I remember the case, it touched me back then and I followed, as much as I could as the circumstances unfolded. I did firmly believe, and I only got 1% of the exposure to the media hype that was the whirlwind in the US, that Scott was guilty, particularly when his girlfriend was found.

However, being presented with all and both sides of the evidence during this documentary, I am firmly convinced that there is at the very least, reasonable doubt of his guilt.

I sincerely hope that Scott is awarded release, while investigations take place on other lines of enquiry, and at the very least he be awarded a retrial.

The media players shouting about Scott's guilt should be ashamed of themselves, Nancy Grace in particular. She is irresponsible and a loud mouth and shouldn't be allowed in such a position of influence.

I hope you find justice, for Laci, for Connor and for Scott.

I have followed this case since it happen, I listened to all the media and realized that I actually believed a lot of untrue statements. After reading all this I don't see how it would be possible for him to do this. The media should not have been able to be so involved, I am sure once they announced where he had went fishing it gave the real killers a place to put her and get the attention on him! No case should be tried by the media. No investigation should be fueled by ignoring pertinent information because without proof, they have already decided who they were blaming.

Americans should be terrified that this could happen here. What if it were you or your loved one? What if Laci and Conner had been able to be found if proper follow through of leads were researched. It is heartbreaking.

My heart aches for what the Peterson family has endured. Thought and prayers are with you all. I hope this conviction can be over-turned with the appeal. Scott deserves to have his name cleared and be free to live the rest of his life in peace.

Our justice system, who should have been determining the TRUTH of what happened rather than making their own assumptions and then set out to manipulate the media, the trial and public opinion to accept their failure as the truth.

I for one, can admit that I was naive enough to believe what we were told on TV were facts. He’s already lost all of these years to this insane unfolding of events. I pray he doesn’t also lose his life as those who failed him attempt to defend their case.
